Mr. Weathers is Aleut and an enrolled member of the Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska in Alaska. He is also an adopted member of the Tsaagweidi (Eagle/Killer Whale) Clan of Tlingit Indians from Kake, Alaska and an active participant in the San Francisco Community of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. Mr. Weathers is also a shareholder in two corporations created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (Sealaska Corp. and Shee Atika, Inc.)

Mr. Weathers is a founding partner of Alexander, Berkey, Williams & Weathers LLP. While he practices in many areas of Indian law, he focuses on business matters, gaming, and ICWA. He has negotiated multi-million dollar loan, management, financing, consulting, purchasing, and leasing agreements, advised clients in complicated tax and insurance matters, and litigated in tribal, state, and federal courts on issues ranging from sovereign immunity to taxes to employment to breaches of contract. He has also advised tribes and tribal entities on business formation and economic development opportunities. Mr. Weathers has also helped tribes restructure substantial debt and renegotiate loans in default.

Mr. Weathers graduated in the top 2% of his law school class and served on the law review. After graduation, Mr. Weathers clerked for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. After his clerkship, Mr. Weathers joined the San Francisco law firm of Long & Levit where he specialized in complex civil litigation in both state and federal courts. He then joined the law firm of Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May (now Reed Smith) to continue his practice in complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on business, eminent domain and property tax matters.

For the past couple of years, Mr. Weathers has been named a Northern California Super Lawyer. This honor is given to 5% of practicing attorneys in Northern California. Mr. Weathers has also been asked by LexisNexis as one of roughly ten in the nation to provide Expert Commentary on breaking Indian law matters. Mr. Weathers is a past-president of the National Native American Bar Association and a current member of its Board of Directors. He has participated on several conference panels related to Indian law, guest lectured at Boalt Hall School of Law on Indian gaming, and spoken at native youth summits.

Mr. Weathers took and passed the summer 2007 Washington Bar Exam. He is the proud father of two wonderful boys.
